With its superb landscape photography, KAZoART and its artists transport you to the four corners of the globe. Sometimes warm, sometimes mysterious, the nature that makes up our world is one of the greatest inspirations for our photographers. Discover our most stunning landscape photographs now!

Famous landscape photographers

Maxime Du Camp and Gustave Le Gray (Palazzo Carini, Palermo) were two explorer photographers from the 19th century who produced incredible photos of far-off lands (Egypt, Palestine, etc.). Gustave Le Gray made a significant contribution to photography, notably setting up studios in Paris, where he also trained Maxime Du Camp. In the 19th century, impressionism was at the forefront of painting. The landscapes and colours surrounding artists were their preferred subject.

Photographers of the time shared this interest, using the new medium to find an aesthetic aspect similar to that of painting - pictorialism. Pictorial photographers Heinrich Kühn (Abend am Schleißheimer Kanal) and Alfred Stieglitz (The Hand of Man, Equivalents) worked hard to gain recognition for photography as a real art. With New Realism, photography became a witness of its surroundings.

Ansel Adams (The Tetons and the Snake River), Willard Van Dyke and Edward Weston (Aspen Valley) created the group F. 64. Abandoning the purely aesthetic aspect of blurring effects, they took an interest in the precision offered by photography.

The evolution of landscape photography

Since photography was first invented, man has used the medium to depict reality. Although photography was used primarily for portraits in the 19th century, landscapes - which were until then represented in painting - became an increasingly popular subject amongst photographers, particularly amongst journalists and explorers.

They would travel with their camera to take beautiful photos of the world to show people the hidden and forgotten beauty of mother nature. Natural light and weather conditions are just some of the obstacles faced by photographers for which they need to find solutions, as, although it is important to prepare angles and perspectives, the versatile nature of the weather makes it impossible to control when creating landscape photography.

Subjects vary depending on the photographer's intentions and beliefs. For an environmental photographer (Yann Arthus-Bertrand), for example, landscape photographs will be centred on climate catastrophes suffered by the Earth at the hands of man, and accompanied by an explicit message.

For a pictorialist photographer, the photo will be retouched in a laboratory and the staging will be meticulously studied, whilst a journalist photographer will be focused on capturing the truth of the moment on film.
