KAZoART boasts an excellent selection of nude art photography, where simply perceiving the human body through the photographer’s lens evokes pure and essential emotions. It expresses the fragility of the human being and hints at questions regarding sexuality, time and the sacred. Have a look at our selection of creative nude photography!

Famous nude photographers

Photographers such as Alfred Cheney Johnston, Helmut Newton, Sally Mann, Pompeo Posar et Spencer Tunick all used the human body as the central model when creating their nude masterpieces.

From the place of the body and its representation in our society to its purely aesthetic beauty, nude photographers play on the codes of nude representation in the spectator's cultural environment.

Between provocation and poetry, the limit is somewhat superfluous, which is why it is difficult to define where the line should be drawn in terms of cultural censorship.

Developments in photographic nude representation

Since the photographer has existed, the nude body has naturally been used as a model, with a clear preference for the female figure. The first photographs were often regarded as "first studies" for artists, where the nude model was perceived from a purely academic angle. However, this medium was quickly adopted by photographers, who found a new form of expression in the technique.

Nude art photography unveils both the intimate and the sacred, which is what makes it so complex. The resulting eroticism was, of course, embraced by the porn industry as early as the 19th century and has continued on a larger scale ever since.

It is essential to differentiate fine art nude and pornographic photography. We shall focus on the first one, which puts forward a particular artistic point of view, a message where the photographed body is not understood as a sexual object, but representative of human complexity. Artists do use pornographic industry codes to subvert and make fun of them.
