Whilst it is now a medium accessible to all, the history of photography is both fascinating and complex. Since it was first invented in 1826 (for which we owe a great debt to Joseph Nicéphore Niepce), photography has gone from strength to strength. From natural to urban settings, portraits, nudes, wildlife photography, and black and white photography, KAZoART offers a wide selection of contemporary photography for sale honouring the up-and-coming photographers of tomorrow!
It was in 1826 that Joseph Nicéphore Niepce used a camera obscura to produce the first stable photographic image on paper coated in silver nitrate. Although it was only a slightly out-of-focus negative, after a few days of exposure time the revolution was under way.
Louis Daguerre then reduced development times with daguerreotypy, which was commercialized in 1893. The images produced through the process, which were still in black and white, were clearer and of a higher quality. It was a major turning point in the democratization of photography, rejuvenating the very concept of the portrait.
Colour did not arrive until 1907, with the invention of the Autochrome, the world’s first colour camera, thanks to the work of Henry Fox Talbot. These cameras nonetheless remained very expensive, until the arrival of colour photography in 1936, when Kodachrome film was released, offering a quicker and more accessible process.
Progress in the field of photography continued until 1990, when the first digital camera - the Dycam Model 1 - was launched on the market. And the rest... is history!
Many photographers have their own unique style and universe. The camera, lens and type of film used are some of the key elements that mark one artist out from another.
Next comes framing, the addition or removal of materials, special processes, retouches, contrast and more... All of which means that today’s photographers have real control over their images. Some photographers also deal with recurring subjects, such as portraits, landscapes, cities, and architecture, sometimes in a specific genre, such as black and white, film or digital.
At KAZoART you will find a vast selection of artistic photography. From close-ups to wide-angles, monochromes to colour, we have curated a selection of contemporary photos from talented artists which you can explore in our catalogue of photographic art for sale!
