The many advantages of digital technology have increased the photographer's possibilities tenfold. KAZoART boasts works from artists who have managed to use all the benefits of digital photography to their advantage, creating outstanding art masterpieces.

Pros and cons of digital photography

There are numerous advantages to digital photography, the first being its storage method. Film reels are no longer necessary, digital cameras now have memory cards that enable photographers to manage their photographs directly from their camera. This means that, thanks to a simple operation, they can choose whether or not they want to keep their photos, and therefore multiply the number of shots to achieve optimal results.

The second major advantage of digital technology is photographic editing, made possible either directly on the camera or via software installed on the computer (e.g. Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, etc.). Thanks to this software, photographers can edit the colour, sharpness and many other elements.

Despite presenting many advantages, digital photography does have a few downsides, including for example the battery life of cameras and necessity to invest in a computer in order to view photos and edit them. Some of the greatest contemporary photographers have opted for digital photography, such as Annie Leibowitz and Yann Arthus-Betrand.

The history of digital photography

Digital photography appeared in the 20th century and went on to largely replace film during the 21st century. In 1981, SONY commercialised the first camera able to store on a small floppy disk (ancestor of the memory card) about fifty coloured images.

Bigger companies such as Kodak and Polaroid did not believe in this new invention and initially refused to invest in a technique that, admittedly, did not work well in its early days. However, public opinion was a decisive factor and sales begin to rocket as of the 1990s/2000s. The digital age was well and truly under way for photography! Soon, companies such as Canon and Nikon began to invest and specialise in this area.

The process of digital photography uses electronic sensors that convert the data into digital code. The digital camera uses a CCD (Charge Couple Device) or CMOS (Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor) sensors and stores the images on memory cards, which vary in format.
