Bronze sculpture dates all the way back to the 3rd millennium BC. It is therefore a very old technique that has come a long way and advanced considerably since then. Originally, in order to create a bronze sculpture, the artist had to proceed in stages. The first step was to create the statue out of wax on to which clay was added. As soon as this preparation was complete, the whole thing was heated, which made the layer of wax melt away. Then, when all the wax had been removed from the clay mold, the hot bronze was poured in. When the bronze had cooled down, the clay mold was then broken and the final sculpture would reveal itself. 

Due to the yellow coloration of the bronze, the sculptor is free to coat their sculpture with various different products (nitric acid, hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, etc.) in order to give it a different hue. Depending on different cultures, there are some variations to this process. However, the process remains broadly the same for bronze sculptures, including bronze sculptures of women, men, portraits and still lifes.
