ANTHONY VEST DRAWING / PAINTING / SCULPTURE / INSTALLATION. Graduated from the École Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs (now H.E.A.R.). Multidisciplinary artist Anthony Vest builds a network of images day by day, sometimes in drawing, painting, sometimes through objects or installations. The approach is an attempt at honesty articulated around a limited vocabulary, both in content and form: some elements are repeated at different scales in different climates: hunting stands, precarious shelters, huts or monoliths interact with malformed clouds, fragile tornadoes and bare trees in a cold, opalescent landscape. Like markers of our time, or witnesses to our history, the formats of the compositions vary from the size of a typewriter’s paper to the large format, and it is in the scenography of the hanging of all these witnesses of a not so distant future that the climate takes on its full responsibility. Remembrance of a future. A humble and positive contemplation translated by the economy of the means used: for the paintings, Chinese ink, graphite, a little sedimentary beige paint and blue, applied on a paper that is usually marouflaged on wood. For the bas-reliefs, concrete. For sculptures, scrap or curved copper-coloured PVC...luminous signs in Braille that blind the visionaries... A serious attempt to accompany us towards a profound lightness. All this, as much as possible, with a hint of irony, and an economy of means.
