Born in 1957, François Cusson is from Les Sables-d’Olonne and has lived and worked in Paris since 1968. The Vendée countryside, its paths lined with trees and ditches full of flowers was his first master: portraits of trees, views of fields, haystacks... Then Paris and its wonders: its churches, the Seine: portraits of bridges, quays, coffee shops... The taste of rare days when pure light like crystal makes everything shine, where the contours are brighter, the colours more subtle... especially being outside on these days to spot and sketch the subjects. And then in the workshop, to make the colours that close everywhere but rarely reveal themselves burst, to seize them and to decline them in multiple series, by expressing them more vividly without distorting them.
