François Lemaire is from Nampcelles-la-Cour, in Thiérache, in the North of France. He comes from a family of farmers. He spent his entire childhood in his father’s fields. After studying literature, cinema and plastic arts in Paris, he taught for a while in the Parisian region, in a priority education zone, then co-wrote documentary and fiction films while working as an assistant director and producer. since 1998, he has devoted himself entirely to painting, which he had been practising since his adolescence. With his landscapes, he explores the question of territory and space: nature is a painter, he says, she reacts to light by colour and composes random paintings that pass by every day before our eyes. With my painting, I do like her, I compose blocks of colours that come together or collide to release an emotion more than a representation, for him, painting is inventing reality, he now leads painting workshops for the Works Council of Gustave Roussy (Villejuif), the Cultural AssociationForanim and the town hall of Kremlin-Bicêtre. He has been exhibiting regularly for twenty-five years.
