Paul Leroux has a taste for images worn down by time and external demands. It is this process that he is trying to replicate in a hurry. He favours the accident as much as possible, wears out the images and provokes them to see how they react.
On the easel, the image has to struggle to survive and the figure ends up existing in an accumulation of layers of paint. The material obtained is its flesh, it is it that gives it its thickness, its intensity. Mallarmé’s sentence inspired him: "Painting not the form but the effect it produces..."
