Astrid Delacourcelle works on the search for light: light that plays with industrial architecture in factories, silos, hangars, smoke..., that breaks through in some abandoned places, illuminating strange perspectives. The one of water, ponds, rivers. She is also interested in the air of the times, humidity, mist, reflections... landscapes that border on abstraction.
For her, the main quality of industrial buildings is their simplicity, nothing decorative, useless and no ornaments. Even if they can be very complex, this complexity answers above all to a function. Functionality, geometry, rigour, in contrast to the natural horizontal, aquatic and curved landscape: a symbolically interesting cohabitation.
When they are no longer in use, these factories are bathed in a particular atmosphere where time has stood still. Darkness crossed by skylights. Silence and contemplation contrast with the bustle and noise of some industrial areas. These monuments in their excess are the temples and modern cathedrals whose ruins sometimes take a poetic and unexpected turn.
