Magali MARMET lives and works in Lille (France). Since childhood, she is passionate about drawing, graphic design and art in general. Since 2014, the BOLTRA Saint GEORGES Gallery welcomes her first works on the occasion of the Watou Arts Festival (Belgium), alongside the surrealist painter Werner EDEBAU.
A series of collections of paintings around the human being and its states of being, more urban creations with the Block series and dreamlike universes follow. His work combines the paradox between graphics and spontaneity, from the figurative semi-abstract to the production of free works, where the juxtaposition of various mediums (inks, resins, acrylics, cardboard ...) gives body to the overall result. His sources of inspiration are numerous: fauvism and the paintings of André Derain, Matisse, the way of painting of Kees Van Dongen, the so eclectic approach of Picasso, the poetry of the works of Klimt, the drawings of Egon Shield, the graphics of Cocteau, the line of Bernard Buffet, the strength of the astonishing work of Cy Twombly, the messages of the contemporary Guy Denning, while passing by the inescapable Jean-Michel Basquiat.
The meaning of words and their resonance as well as the harmonization of colors and forms constitute the common thread of her work. Nourished by an insatiable curiosity, her creative impulse is constantly being re-interrogated, giving birth to numerous protean collections.
Approach: Magali MARMET's creations are expressed in painting and sculpture in an eclectic and serial manner. Her artistic expression has been based for many years on the human being and his place in society, his emotions, his states of being. Independently or not, several themes are expressed in his creations: the city and its constructions, the body, portraits and the palette of feelings. Several mediums such as acrylics, inks, pastels, metal and resins form the basis of her productions. The process must be conclusive in the amalgam of these. She likes to work in harmony with vibrant colours, the addition of textures and impastos and sometimes, contrasts. She works first by letting herself be guided by her intuitions. Later, she insists on working in a more rational, methodical and analytical way.
Thus, she gives importance to the interrelation between her work and the viewer to produce an impact with her meaning. For some time now, she has allowed herself to be lulled by sculpture, where it is possible to explore her 2D creations in volume.
Artistic training resulting from practice, year after year.
