After having been a student in the studio of the sculptor Georges Nadal, Jean-Yves Kervévan studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris, in the studio of the sculptor Georges Jeanclos.
He then created portraits for the press and novel covers for many French and foreign publishers (Hachette, J'ai lu, Denoël, Press Pocket, Shlüeck, Shannon Associates). He also sculpts trophies and collector's items for various clients (Atlas, Idyllis éditions, Editions de Café, Ankama, Les sculpteurs de Bulles).
In 2006, he created the sets for the feature film "La citadelle assiégée" by Philippe Calderon (Jules Verne Adventure Festival Prize - Paris). At the same time, he works continuously on personal research (drawing, painting, sculpture, photography) which were exhibited.
Photography has always been present and very important for Jean-Yves in the development of his various works. It has evolved in many ways, from his first shots of his characters and his sets modelled for illustration, to the current exploration of spaces, colours, shapes and lights within living matter.
"To shiver at the approach of trees with leaves vibrating in the wind, to feel this nature in constant metamorphosis, to say to oneself that this energy is palpable, perhaps even beyond appearances, to believe in it and to seek these presences through the photographic realization. To discover the colours, the materials so singular and rich, the witnesses without words in the "flowering of the old walls", to photograph these fossils deposited there by time and to reveal to the day these forgotten mutes. Then, photography as a possible door opening to let enter a little contemplation on the mysteries, a little awakening to the whispers of the shadows in the light, as a touch of the glance to the passage of discreet and benevolent ghosts... photography as an attempt to caress the living during a fleeting and infinite time of pose."
