Steph Goodger lives and works between Bordeaux and Great Britain. In 2020, she won a prize in the prestigious British competition, John Moores Painting Prize.
The artist enjoys collaborating and organizing group exhibitions, both in France and the UK. She exhibits her large format paintings internationally. In her work, she draws as much on photographic archives as on social history, architecture and literature. The recurring theme is conflict; conflict zones, theaters of war, the human experience of conflict and its material, social and individual consequences, as well as the trauma caused to the Earth itself.
Steph Goodger works in series. By conducting extensive research in photographic archives, she often creates collages and photomontages. Watercolor studies and small oil paintings are the preparatory steps for the larger paintings.
"My paintings were about something I would never really know, places I could never go. But they also conjured up a new space, a shifting world at the edge of the present and the past." Steph Goodger
