Roland Saurel's first sculptures represent people linked, welded together, united in a carnal and sensual representation all in roundness. Fully united, with the right amount of abstraction so that the form is sufficiently stripped of "frills", without denaturing the human race.
His most recent sculptures, thanks to the emptiness left by the abstraction, thanks to the shadow they project, push the interpretation of each one to recompose the space.
My artistic approach is to create for example subjects by representing only one leg to each person to lighten the base without visually upsetting the whole. To create an optical illusion by changing the heads of my characters when one turns around my sculptures. Or to not put as many limbs or heads as there are characters! All this without the observer being destabilized!
