Jean-Marc Angelini experiments with lenses the way a painter experiments with brushes, carefully staging delicate, surprising and poetic scenes.
Jean-Marc Angelini was born in Antibes in 1961 and fell in love with photography at a very early age, buying his first reflex camera, a Zenith-E, in the 1970s.
Although he studied engineering in Aix-en-Provence and Paris, and went on to become a structural calculation expert, his passion for photography never died and he later moved his company "Espaces Numériques" into the field of digital technology, bringing him closer to his childhood passion.
Angelini favours fine-art photography over experimental photography, and is a member of the Longo'Art collective in Saint-Jeannet, which enables him to work on group projects that combine drawing, painting, sculpture, live performance, photography and video-making.
In his photos Jean-Marc Angelini aims to capture the fleeting traces of ephemeral emotions and atmospheres that reconcile space and time. He uses light, movement and reflection to move away from more figurative images.
The enigmatic and exalted female subjects coyly deploy their grace in ethereal compositions, creating a study on the border between figurative and abstract art. His work is a profound attempt to deconstruct the real and create a different universe, using elements that we know and recognise.
