Sculptures of Gilles Candelier: the spirit of his creative work
Progressively and for a long time, his work of sculpture has been oriented towards a search for evocations such as: lightness, often unstable balance, appearance of fragility, sometimes of partial translucence. Paradox sought by a metal that surprises us: copper.
In almost all his works appears a character: woman, man, child, sometimes an animal. Desire without doubt to always keep a presence of "the living being". Often a "pure geometry" is associated with it: sphere, straight line, rectangle, square... as a kind of complementary presence that is immutable, perfect and stable.
The attitudes are carefully studied to translate and make legible the rhythms, the gestures, the efforts in the manner of a mime which analyzes them and makes them expressive.
In the service of these orientations, the copper metals reveal their great capacity of transformation: from welding to hammering, to cuts with shears, to patinas, to coloring with the flame and to the laying of gold leaves.
