Beatrice Wolff

Beatrice Wolff

France

Originally from the north of France, Béatrice Wolff attended various workshops at the fine arts school in Dunkirk until the age of 18: nudes, engraving, silkscreening, still life.... She then continued to follow different artists' workshops in Venezuela, Paris, Australia and Montpellier.

Now living in Montpellier, she creates in her own studio and regularly exhibits her work.

From her numerous travels, she draws from her memories of South American sensations and colors, the signs and symbols of the Australian aboriginal culture or the ancestral Japanese art, through the use of Indian ink.

Having woven links between all these cultures, she subtly reintroduces her sensations, her feelings through textures, and especially through color.

Her favorite material is paper, the main thread of her work. From all kinds of paper, often chosen for their attractiveness, she creates with or over a simple piece by drawing from its energy. Living fragments that can tell a story, are glued, cut, torn or crumpled and placed on the support, paper or other on which she adds some traces of paint, ink, pencil, pastel or acrylic spray.

From there, energetic, vivid, strong, fluorescent colors are assembled, seeking harmony and thus form compositions; like patchworks of life, memories, feelings...

By mixing painting with collages, she expresses her ideas, her sensations by signs, images, words and by her palettes which she wishes to be luminous, she reinforces and dynamizes her compositions.

She also tries to produce paintings imitating her collages, on the border between the two techniques, adding a visual experience to her compositions. Or sometimes, she creates very simple monoliths close to papers that are also sculpture.

When she creates, she finds her own writing, her own language, playing between sculpture and painting.

"I like to do without a model and free myself from virtual reality. I do not represent any object from the natural world, real or imaginary.

I let my mind wander in the service of my creations.

I tell stories through signs, and I wish that each person in front of my creations can travel and create their own story.

Creating is my total space of freedom. Beatrice
