Vincent Ganaye

Vincent Ganaye

France
Confirmed artist

Sharing his activities between painting and photography, Vincent Ganaye resides in France in the Vosges and draws his inspirations from nature on his territory and in the mountains far from any human imprint.

As a professional artist, he has researched and experimented with many ancient painting techniques and has also done important work on the theme of portraiture before devoting himself fully to landscape painting.

His main pictorial technique is that of egg tempera applied on a preparatory drawing with black stone made on art paper or canvas. This painting is made of raw pigments and egg yolk as a binder and sometimes associated with cooked oils. It allows a work "alla prima" and has an exceptional durability. The origin of this technique can be found in Egypt where it was used in antiquity for the decoration of sarcophagi and mummy masks.

"I write the landscape with the same intention as that which guides my long journeys on foot, often with only a thin horizon as an initial reference point, a thread of improvisation and discovery from which the landscape unfolds its perspectives, its reliefs and its rhythms. Nothing is anticipated, everything is woven in the present moment. On the steep slopes, the black silhouette of the pines, the massive rocks in precarious balance build my reference points. From the first black chalk line on the white canvas to the last touch of color on a distant summit, everything can change and be reinvented, in the light of the promise of a new horizon, another journey..."

Vincent Ganaye has been a member of the Maison des Artistes since 1997 and regularly exhibits his work.
