VILDEMAN paints, while working simultaneously on engravings and sculptures. Using a variety of techniques ranging from painting to drawing, stencils and writing, VILDEMAN conceives his work as an assemblage of graphic clues in balance with a true painter’s work of colour. To this end, for many years he has been collecting images from collective memory[archetypes], and[in world imagery], in order to build a visual "encyclopedia". The artist selects fragments that he arranges so that, once assembled, they "become carriers of symbols, poetic[unconscious] meaning or commitment.
Interested in art history and contemporary creation in the broadest sense, VILDEMAN cultivates his taste for the arts by enriching his knowledge daily through exhibitions, readings and musical listening. His creative universe is also nourished by all the images cut out of magazines, dealing with subjects as diverse as advertising, current events, popular imagery or even echoing his personal history, his personal mythology.
Bringing his artistic approach closer to that of a singer from Maloya - traditional Reunionese music -, VILDEMAN exercises his art both rigorously in the construction of the work, within a framework[rhythm] that he himself sets up; and spontaneously in the release taken, in order to allow his unconscious to express himself in complete freedom.
