"With the collage, Laurence Hochin sets her thinking in motion to revisit and fragment territories and bodies. In front of a work of Laurence Hochin you think you see a painting. The effects of light and the combinations of a palette that blends the dark with the radiant, contribute to a moving impression, a dynamic sensation that could be likened, for a moment, to brush strokes. This chromatic optic brings out the wonderful. The almost hallucinatory experience reveals tricks of style and scale, optics and light.
The subjects represented are real, without social criteria. They are highlighted based on the artist’s personal feelings, without value judgments. New York, Dakar, Paris, Budapest, La Camargue, Saint-Malo... The exploded references of the places mentioned are as explicit as the perfectly identifiable features of his self-portraits. From fragmentation to reconstruction, the figurative reinterpretation of the motif defends the finesse of a true paper lace."
