THEIL-RABIER (16), France
Oil painting, figurative but not descriptive, the figurative support is only a pretext to express myself through and through colours and coloured rhythms. The artist must rethink his approach to external reality in new terms. Memory is not memory but becoming, it does not turn around, any more than the painted sun has memory of the sun, but becomes of the sun.
What the artist sees, he does not appropriate it, he has no other way to return it to the world than by painting it, and painting there, is not depicting, going around it to release it by a cut, but engaging it until it is seized.
I paint silent omens. We must not think we are apprehending an objective reality, it is ourselves who come out of the tube, pressed by our own fingers. The color of the painting is not the color of the world. Painting is a world, which is not the world, even when it shows its images. A painting must above all reproduce the intimate thought of the artist who dominates his model, and not a subjugation of the artist to the subject. The plans, by simplifying themselves, condense. Simplify the composition in favour of the rhythm of the colours.
I married the color. I speak with my colors, listen to me with your eyes! Painting with colors that have a joy and that carry within them the strength and tranquility that rest.
The greatest formation is that which one makes oneself, looking with wide open eyes.
It is the past only the future is beautiful!
