lys lez lannoy (59), France
Philippe is a sculptor. His training in architecture led him to think of his works as monumental sculptures, wondering where they could be located, square, garden, roundabout, etc....
The latest version of his little bronzes is now made of gold to catch the light more easily. Gold is also a strong way of representing the sacred, precious aspect of a small object. The Characters are the summary of a working life: some with faces, veiled, geometric, rectangular, sometimes without arms, because they can no longer move, or act, or work, the only torso is expressive. Philippe sees in his three bronzes the image of our time: our head, a rectangular screen, our action, sometimes frozen, by the screens....
"Observation is not the only approach, we must add other factors, time, matter, light. The movement... After many years of research, the only certainty is that there are none or so few, it must be admitted that the golden rule is not to have any, to go deeper into mysterious things.
I don’t know what touches us most about a sculpture, but the desire to decipher, a strength, a unity, a complicity, a sculpture is a kind of book, whose entire page opens our eyes spontaneously." Philippe
