Ismaël Maudet has been working with steel for about ten years. It is a material that allows him great freedom during the creative process.
"I approach sculpture as an exercise in matter. I work on an industrial and standardized material that I transform to give it a raw and singular aspect. By melting the metal, I cause more or less controlled accidents and try to reveal the mineral origin of iron. The plastic behaviour of the material dictates the shape of the sculpture and a silhouette emerges. With a resistant and inert material, I try to recover spontaneity with a stroke of a pencil to represent the movement and fragility of life." Ismaël Maudet
