Born in Montreal, Dominique Philion worked for several years as a fashion photographer in Quebec. Since 1995, she has lived in Paris where she has traded in her camera for brushes.
"My painting is always in evolution, it changes, transforms itself to the rhythm of what touches me and my pictographic experiences. This perpetual "work-in-progress" is often a reflection of very personal feelings shaped by my North American past, and a European present. I draw much of my inspiration from the elements of nature. Colour has a decisive role to play, it is the basis, shapes are sometimes revealed at random in the gesture, revealing new worlds at the crossroads of figuration and abstraction. From this evocative dimension, spaces are born in which I try to move away from pictorial reality to give way to dreams."
