"Purple things" is part of a series called "The Cabinet of Curiosities". It is freely inspired by the "Cabinets de curiosities" of the 19th century, a kind of collection of natural and artificial objects that aroused people's curiosity.

The steam punk style is inspired by these strange collections. This series works in the same way: collecting shapes, colours and materials and assembling them into a kind of "chimeric" artistic creation, or automatic writing. These works are made on a special mixed technical paper.

The work is sold WITHOUT FRAME. It will be perfect in a vintage setting, or in an oversized baroque setting. Several pieces can also be presented in a single frame, such as a series from the series.

Fabienne Monestier prefers to evoke nature rather than emulate it. For the most part, she paints from her imagination. Any subject is capable of catching her interest, as everything is a potential source for inspiration and plastic interpretation.

Drawing and painting, art as a driving force

Born into a family of DIY enthusiasts and all-rounders, Fabienne Monestier was encouraged to express her creativity from an early age. As soon as she was able, she picked up a pencil and began doodling, drawing and inventing images.

Later, she studied experimental film and engraving at the Institut d'Arts Visuels d'Orléans, where she was awarded a post-graduate qualification in plastic education for her two short films. She has now returned to her first loves and works as a painter full time.

Fabienne Monestier, technique over subject

The subject comes second in Fabienne Monestier's approach. Her real inspirations are pictorial techniques. Frequently using transparent colours for their rich and deep tones, she works on canvas, wood and paper, in oil watercolours, ink, coloured pencils, acrylic, markers, charcoal, black chalk and using mixed techniques... constantly exploring new avenues!
