Pierre Richir was born in 1959 in Paris and began painting in 1977 during his studies at the Boulle School wherein he received an Applied Arts degree with a specialisation in furniture trade.
After thirty years of a non-figurative approach, he came back to a form of figuration mixed with abstract elements. His influences are mainly musical (Brain Eno, Robert Fripp, Laurie Anderson, David Sylvian), and literary (Jean Ray, Hermann Hesse, H.P. Lovecraft, Philip K. Dick). While his techniques range from acrylic to oil painting.
In the works of Pierre Richir, the characters are often placed in unlikely environments, which puts the viewer in a universe full of questions about time, the precariousness of life, the human condition and the contemporary world.
