The unique drawing made in pencil and Indian ink on BFK Rives 250 gr/m2 paper and titled XXI 5 006 [9 quasi-squares at two angles with alternating piles at 0° in a square] is a work that is part of the series entitled [entasis] developed by Pierre Muckensturm since 2019. This unique work is signed and dated in pencil on the front and titled on the back. In 1811, the British architect Charles Robert Cockerell expressed his surprise at "a most curious phenomenon which has so far escaped the most precise observers, in fact, it is so delicate that if it is not measured, it is not discernible to the naked eye". Entasis (from the Greek ἔντασις, "tension") is an architectural technique that consists of slightly bulging the shaft of columns. According to an explanation that goes back to Heron of Alexandria, it is to compensate for an optical illusion that would give the viewer the impression that the sides of the columns are concave if they were perfectly straight. Used in Greek Antiquity, this process is illustrated in the Parthenon. Based on this observation, all of the work in the [entasis] series is constructed by the disturbance resulting from the positioning of almost imperceptible convexities in an orthogonal marker. The aim is to alter a strict arrangement by introducing quasi-linearity, the imperceptible disturbance by the little.

Born on 20 February 1970 in Strasbourg. Pierre Muckensturm lives and works in Colmar.
He studied geography from 1989 onwards and then specialised in spatial planning at the Louis Pasteur University in Strasbourg.
Between 1997 and 2001, he participated in plastic art workshops and thus had the opportunity to present his first works in group exhibitions at the Centre Rhénan d’Art Contemporain in Altkirch (France).
Since then he has pursued an artistic career in parallel with his profession as a specialist teacher.
From 1997 to 2004, he approached painting with a resolutely figurative work and met his first collectors. Among them was Antoine Crupi, an architect, who commissioned him to create a very large work and who, later on, introduced him to his culture of design and architecture and introduced him to Le Modulor and a major work by architect Charles-Edouard Jeanneret-Gris: Notre dame du Haut. It was following his visit in 2004 that he left figuration and has since then endeavoured to find in his painting the accuracy of the emotion perceived then and, from it, he seeks to create his own universe of benevolence. To this end, he expresses himself through large oil paintings, which support a language of sober and intimate emotions. He bases his research on the certainty that, as Julius Bissier has stated: "Calm is greater than storm".
Since 2010, in parallel with his painted work, he has been developing an engraving work, which aims to fix a line / form of flexibility, curvature and deployment that can most accurately express his new temporal prehension.
