This work is part of a series inspired by the work of Piranesi, an 18th century Italian engraver, notably his work on "imaginary prisons", updated here with a futuristic vision. Piranesian architecture is unfinished, abandoned, rebuilt, ruined, patched up; prisons seem to be the result of successive periods, alternating the phases of construction and demolition, hence the absence of logic and the confused aspect of the whole. Just as in Piranesi's work, the spectator is lost in an electronic world whose limits he cannot grasp, imprisoned in a chaotic and incomprehensible universe, condemned to wander in a virtual space that escapes him.

Through this work, Stello sought to reclaim an ordinary and banal object of everyday life, the motherboard contained in each computer. These are drawings and collages made of motherboard and electronic circuit board prints, reworked with gouache, markers, pens, felt-tips and pencil.

It is interesting to note that the motherboards are made with techniques similar to those of old engraving. And thus recreate a contemporary form of engraving using elements that do not belong to the field of art but to science. While adding a manual and irrational touch, by juxtaposing fragments according to an aesthetic and non-electronic logic.

At a time when our perception is entirely biased by electronics and digital technology, when our experience of the world seems to be conditioned by computers, this approach aims to reinvest the object, to return to the material that constitutes it, the motherboard, in order to offer a new point of view by highlighting the poetic potential, the strangeness and the beauty of electronic components a priori devoid of any poetry.

Indeed, the motherboard presents a network similar to a labyrinth, which echoes the labyrinth of information offered by the Internet, which becomes hermetic and incomprehensible by offering an excess of data in which one ends up getting lost. Through these "cyberlandscapes", it is a question of making visible those invisible elements that condition our existence.

The object, deprived of its ordinary meaning and restored to itself, becomes by this same abolition openness to all possibilities; by manifesting all its reality, it thus becomes abstract and the source of a new aesthetic.
