Fascinated by paper since childhood, I have never stopped exploring it in all its facets. Today, I draw with surgical scalpels that allow me to make my patterns appear in the thickness of the sheet. Patiently, I slowly exhale as I push the blade into the paper. Notch after notch, the lines bring out a drawing created freehand without a preparatory sketch. Draw to meditate and offer you my Murmurations as a support for your moments of relaxation. This intimist work is a close look at itself and invites you to play with the ambient light. Indeed, it is you, moving around it, who will make different lines of reading appear. Depending on the angle of vision, natural or shaving lighting, different works are given to read! I also invite you to change the direction of the hanging from time to time: you will discover new patterns! I work by turning the sheet and no reading direction is preferred. Inspired by the changing ballet of starlings in the sky, called Murmuration in English, I gave this name to my equally changing works..." Drawing, engraving or sculpture? In any case, an original and spectacular technique!

The most humble of materials, paper, has always fascinated Léa Valmain. It sometimes bears curious names, varies in thickness, velvety, format, colour... The full and empty, the shadow and light that play with the notions of presence and absence are the other artistic interests of this artist. Using a surgical scalpel, she gently cuts the paper in its thickness, creates a movement, makes lines, curves gush out without (almost!) ever piercing the sheet. She sculpts directly, without prior drawing, just guided by the emotion of a moment. The pattern that appears then is not fixed.

Gently approach to make the light dance and create moving shadows... Take a small step aside and everything changes... Then another and another. At every glance, a new work! While admiring in the Toulouse sky, the ballet of starlings who also create changing paintings in a few moments, she wanted to give the name "Murmurations" to these engraved papers.
