"First, lay the gold foil gently. Gently rub with polished agate to give luster and shine. Then, grasp a surgical scalpel and cut after cut, delicately, making a pattern appear. The light comes out of all these cuts and creates a work that changes depending on the lighting and your position! So you are not faced with a single piece of artwork, but with several. It is your gaze that creates your work. To create, I breathe and cut the paper with each exhalation in a slow and continuous breath. This is undoubtedly what gives them a strong calming power. As you look at this work, you enter into an artistic meditation."

The most humble of materials, paper, has always fascinated Léa Valmain. It sometimes bears curious names, varies in thickness, velvety, format, colour... The full and empty, the shadow and light that play with the notions of presence and absence are the other artistic interests of this artist. Using a surgical scalpel, she gently cuts the paper in its thickness, creates a movement, makes lines, curves gush out without (almost!) ever piercing the sheet. She sculpts directly, without prior drawing, just guided by the emotion of a moment. The pattern that appears then is not fixed.

Gently approach to make the light dance and create moving shadows... Take a small step aside and everything changes... Then another and another. At every glance, a new work! While admiring in the Toulouse sky, the ballet of starlings who also create changing paintings in a few moments, she wanted to give the name "Murmurations" to these engraved papers.
