Drawing from a sculpture "Satyr and Bacchae" in the Louvre

Jean-Jacques PRADIER, known as James

Geneva, 1790 - Bougival, 1852

Satyr and Bacchante

1834

Marble

H. 1,25 m. ; L. : 1,12 m. ; Pr. : 0,78 m.

A satyr, a half-man, half-goat being from Greek mythology, languidly holds a Bacchante in his arms, and with his free hand strips her naked. The bacchante, delighted, her mouth half-opened and her eyes half-closed by the approach of ecstasy, seems to repel him and attract him at the same time. The eroticism of this group caused a scandal at the 1834 Salon. The mythological subject is only a pretext for a realistic representation of non-idealized nude bodies.

Harry Boudchicha began his artistic practice at the age of 14 through various municipal workshops of painting, drawing and sculpture in his town, Coulommniers. Arrived in Paris in 1992, the artist devotes himself to the nude, to the study of the body of living model and sculptures in various Parisian museums. He perfected his technique, reproducing today with a pencil stroke the lightness of the forms, the curves, and the distribution of the light on the bodies as on the objects, in his nudes and still lifes. He continues his training until 2016, through various workshops of engraving, sculpture and painting in Paris as the Montparnasse workshop of Fine Arts and a training at the Academy of Saint-Roque.

Now a member of the Taylor Foundation and the Salon d'Automne de Paris, Harry Boudchicha's work has evolved over the years. Today, the artist centers his pictorial work around the same theme, the nude. Expressing himself through both drawing and painting, he produces drawings and oil paintings from models as well as studies from paintings in the Louvre Museum in Paris.
