Pastel and ink on paper - 2019 - 13 pieces numbered from (1) to (13) This suite is an endosemy that develops the theme of the canvas "Return to ... (second period) - in Rose's villa" oil on canvas - 2002 "Return to ... (second period)", a set of 22 pieces, a continuation of the "first period" exhibited in 1996 [...].

Nicolas Blin develops here the use of glazes and the superimposition of pigmented layers: it is a question of expressing the play of a reality confronted with the desire for memory that goes beyond simple nostalgia. The canvas delivers its meaning slowly, the pursuit of what can be called the expression of the thickness of time, no longer only calls upon a scenography specific to the theme (linearity, series, multiple image, composite image).

It takes on a new dimension by deepening the question of memorization and visual perception. The random nature of visual memory is expressed in a research in which the mental reflexes (architectural and/or sensory) and the internalized mechanisms of our visual acuity are opposed. Here figuration is only an appearance crossed by a poetic abstraction. Some pieces in this series are the subject of endosemies: internal exploration of the thematic fields of the canvas in the form of narrative threads often made in ink and pastel. Nicolas Blin (1955) Plastic painter narrator. Lives and works in Pontoise - France Graduate of the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Paris, exhibitions and collections in France, Switzerland, Sweden, Spain, Japan, USA.

"From the beginning, Nicolas Blin’s work has focused on the discursive paths of narrative where space and time expand or stretch, to deliver an invented or lived narrative. Each work or series of works, using different techniques, becomes the imprint of a chosen moment, erased, suspended or hidden. In fact, the appearance of the story or its memory is a recurrence in Nicolas Blin’s works, which establish concentric circles, always and differently telling a story, intimate and daily, poetic and musical, staged or danced. His first works, entitled Récits I and II (1984, 1990), opened the artist’s incessant questioning of the history of representation, which extends the field of figuration to abstract worlds of a reproduction of reality itself, and which is in keeping with the tradition of the text-image concept, currently revisited by many artists. According to offbeat framings, a taste for detail, a nuanced palette of colours and a synthetic formal play, Nicolas Blin proposes plastic narratives whose anonymous, familiar and intimate spaces create a personal universe."
