MagLM, whose real name is Magali Lapeyre-Mirande, is a French self-taught artist living near Bordeaux. After having worked for many years exclusively on portraits, she began to combine her passion for nature and animals with that for art. Member of the association ArAnimA which gathers international artists committed to biodiversity, she actively participates in the defence of wild animals by donating a percentage of the sale of her works to charities dedicated to this cause. Working mainly with graphite and carbon pencils for more than ten years, MagLM has been refining her own methods and techniques to draw wildlife in a realistic and vivid way. Hyperrealism is meditative for her, with particular attention to detail and repetition. This is part of the challenge, as is patience, and both make the completion of a work all the more rewarding. Starting with an image that she finds interesting, aesthetically and conceptually speaking, she uses the composition process as a tool for reflection: having a rough idea of what she wants the image to look like and feel like, new and unexpected ideas come to her mind when working with light effects. Her works bring a presence to a room, embodying the subject in a way that allows you to experience the artwork as an interactive encounter.
