Coming from the photographic world and as a North American, my work seems to be well marked at first by urbanity and the search for large spaces. Fascinated by the night, attracted by the architectural beauty, the series of New York paintings reveals structures in vibrant colors, where I like to make the human presence feel without it really being there, involving in turn the spectator as an actor. The use of pastels, sometimes in their raw state, sometimes linked to a solvent, pleases me because it allows me to translate spaces, shapes and volumes, which often seem unfinished, into light and line.

This painting is ready to hang and delivered with an acid-free mat and a very neutral black frame.

Born in Montreal, Dominique Philion worked for several years as a fashion photographer in Quebec. Since 1995, she has lived in Paris where she has traded in her camera for brushes.

"My painting is always in evolution, it changes, transforms itself to the rhythm of what touches me and my pictographic experiences. This perpetual "work-in-progress" is often a reflection of very personal feelings shaped by my North American past, and a European present. I draw much of my inspiration from the elements of nature. Colour has a decisive role to play, it is the basis, shapes are sometimes revealed at random in the gesture, revealing new worlds at the crossroads of figuration and abstraction. From this evocative dimension, spaces are born in which I try to move away from pictorial reality to give way to dreams."
