Drawing on wood, mixed techniques, 2015-2016.

"Mirabile Herbarium testifies to a diversity of gestures, such as the beginnings of my technical drawings inspired by the world of fauna and flora and my "Negatives" that explore the material. Chinese ink, walnut stain, chalk, paint and salt evaporated or mixed with the various pigments of this work reveal a let go.

If my drawing in black ink is done without a preliminary sketch, and therefore also leaves an important place to improvisation, it nevertheless results from a slow and meticulous gesture where dots and lines draw these imaginary flowers. Mirabile Herbarium is one of my first works on wood with larger dimensions than my first drawings on wood or paper.

Like most of my work, this work has a name borrowed from Latin: a revealing and humorous play that accentuates the ambiguity between the real and imaginary nature of my drawings." - Clementine Vauchelet

Clémentine Vauchelet is a visual artist and textile designer who lives and works in Seine-et-Marne. She holds a Master's degree in Image and Living Arts from the Pantheon-Sorbonne University and a BTS in Fashion Design.

Her graphic compositions are poetic spaces where the artist's imagination wishes to express itself in a free movement, in close connection with nature. Although her drawings made of points, lines and curves are meticulous, their realizations banish the sketch made beforehand and the observed model. Bodies of a fantastic fauna and flora, the subjects of his creations are like an embryo that unfolds. They invade various surfaces such as paper, wood, or even shells. Inspired since childhood by Hayao Miyazaki's animated films, by the terrestrial and marine fauna and flora discovered during her travels in Guadeloupe, remembered with her child's eyes, but also by micro-organisms and the bacterial world, Clementine makes nature her main, primordial and committed subject.

Her creations, in various mediums and techniques, reveal a universe imbued with poetry where through the metamorphoses of nature the artist puts at the heart of her work the concept of survival.
