Alga Flore is a drawing on white paper made with black ink (point 0.05) in 2018. Consisting of a multitude of lines and dots, this work uses forms inspired by the art nouveau of "Algae Flores", a drawing on wood with lighter lines and more minimalist graphic details. Algae Flores is an imaginary nature, in movement, dancing and poetic. This drawing is in line with the "Collection of Specimens".
If references and inspirations are undeniable (notably fauna and flora, art nouveau and decorative art, Hayao Miyazaki's animated films, botanical and anatomical plates) my drawings are always the fruit of my imagination. They are also the result of an artistic approach, even a protocol, which frees me from the sketch, the pencil, a composition thought out beforehand and the model. The point or the line are the beginning of a creation without design.
The black and white of the imaginary natures that I draw has a fundamental importance: the gaze is focused on movement, on form and pure graphics and not on colours that could link it to determined, specific living beings. Black and white is for me a way to bring a part of the unknown or strangeness into my drawings. Without colour, the hybridity between fauna and flora (marine and terrestrial) is more a matter of emotion than of knowledge.
