Ancolia Aurea is an original drawing made with ink on paper. It is part of a series of drawings entitled "Collection of Specimens". Ancolia Aurea is a name borrowed from the Latin, invented, like this imagined nature which is inspired by marine flora and fauna. This game between reality and imagination is at the very heart of my work. All the Specimens I draw reveal lines, points and curves that precisely describe the details of a nature populated by unknown, dreamed of species, in full metamorphosis. Organisms in close links, hybrids, these last ones are at the origin of a thought, a process of symbiosis between the world of fauna and flora.

Inspired as a child by the nature, fauna and flora discovered during my travels in Guadeloupe and by Hayao Miyazaki's animated films, this collection only started later during my studies in fashion school in 2011. This series of original drawings includes about 40 specimens, the most recent of which have been enriched with the work of biologist Ernst Haeckel and more widely with botanical plates and cabinets of curiosities, the forerunner of the natural history museum where, since the Renaissance, the wonders of the world, both cultural and natural, were gathered together.

The Specimens that I draw are always the fruit of my imagination and these sources of inspiration, unconscious at the beginning of this collection. They are also the result of an artistic approach, even a protocol, which frees me from the sketch, the pencil, a composition thought out beforehand and the model. The point or the line are the beginning of a creation without design.

Clémentine Vauchelet is a visual artist and textile designer who lives and works in Seine-et-Marne. She holds a Master's degree in Image and Living Arts from the Pantheon-Sorbonne University and a BTS in Fashion Design.

Her graphic compositions are poetic spaces where the artist's imagination wishes to express itself in a free movement, in close connection with nature. Although her drawings made of points, lines and curves are meticulous, their realizations banish the sketch made beforehand and the observed model. Bodies of a fantastic fauna and flora, the subjects of his creations are like an embryo that unfolds. They invade various surfaces such as paper, wood, or even shells. Inspired since childhood by Hayao Miyazaki's animated films, by the terrestrial and marine fauna and flora discovered during her travels in Guadeloupe, remembered with her child's eyes, but also by micro-organisms and the bacterial world, Clementine makes nature her main, primordial and committed subject.

Her creations, in various mediums and techniques, reveal a universe imbued with poetry where through the metamorphoses of nature the artist puts at the heart of her work the concept of survival.
