Carnivorafloe is an original drawing made in 2011 with ink on paper (opening on the drawing: 24 x 19 cm, dimensions with the mat: 34 x 29 cm, dimensions with the frame: 38 x 33 cm). This drawing is part of a series entitled "Collection of Specimens". Carnivorafloe is a name borrowed from Latin, invented, like this imagined nature which is inspired by flora and fauna.
This game between reality and imagination is at the very heart of my work. Carnivorafloe is one of the first specimens I drew. The line is lighter, even naive. All the specimens I draw reveal lines, dots and curves that precisely describe the details of a nature populated by unknown, dreamed of species, in full metamorphosis. Organisms in close links, hybrids, these last ones are at the origin of a thought, a process of symbioses between the world of fauna and flora. Inspired as a child by the nature, fauna and flora discovered during my travels in Guadeloupe and by Hayao Miyazaki's animated films, this collection only started later during my studies in fashion school in 2011.
This series of original drawings includes about 40 specimens, the most recent of which have been enriched by the work of the biologist Ernst Haeckel and, more broadly, by the botanical plates and cabinets of curiosities, the forerunner of the natural history museum where, since the Renaissance, the wonders of the world, cultural and natural, were gathered together.
The Specimens I draw are always the fruit of my imagination and these sources of inspiration, unconscious at the beginning of this collection. They are also the result of an artistic process, even a protocol, which frees me from the sketch, the pencil, a composition thought out beforehand and the model. The point or the line are the beginning of a creation without design.
