François Sahuc is a French artist and architect. After studying at the Beaux Arts de Paris, he opened his agency in the Marais district in 1984. To satisfy this vital need to draw and his passion for the human body, he attended workshops for living models, such as the one directed by artist Bertrand Godard.
After several years, François Sahuc found his style: a dynamic, spontaneous and lively drawing. The curves of its silhouettes are round and slender, the line is always powerful and strong, sometimes vibrant. His drawings are the result of poses with female or male models, from which he quickly captures the essence of the movement and personality of the model. His work is characterized by permanent technical experiments.
The artist works in his studio loft in Clamart, a quiet place bathed in light that encourages concentration and creativity. He uses mainly warm colours such as red, orange, brown, ochre, then he works on volumes and shadows. Like a sculptor, he refines the mass by gradually specifying the volumes. He then takes back some of the bottoms in oil or pastels. His drawings made on different papers are mounted on canvas.
His works are alive, they suggest the body more than drawing it in detail; without eyes or mouth. From these almost unreal characters, drawn from his imagination, emerges a certain sensual atmosphere. Its generously shaped and warmly coloured silhouettes are in stark contrast to their author, an artist with a discreet charm and a rather puny athletic physique. But don’t they say opposites attract each other?
