I discovered this tree during a trip to Guyana. I used a doily print to render its texture and fan shape. I don't know where it got its name, but its discovery remains a good memory.

It is an acrylic paint on a modeling plaster where traces (comb, spatula) and prints (lace, doily, paper, sponge) are applied. The metallic aspect of a part of this canvas is only due to the use of colors. A frame in the style of the subject is painted on the canvas. In some places, the motif overflows the frame.

Passionate about painting since the age of 12, Bernard Devie has always shown an interest in so-called "primitive" art. His low-relief paintings evoke pre-Columbian, American Indian and Japanese art.

His very particular creations combine an undercoat of modelled acrylic relief with numerous layers of paint and varnish. The decorative motifs are often derived from prints of openwork fabrics: fancy curtains, lace, doilies found in flea markets. Traces of combs or spatula are added. The final result evokes the metal to be mistaken.
