Valérie DepadovaAmour

Born in Alger in 1965, artist Valérie Depadova expresses herself in acrylic, collage, pastel, Indian ink and graphite, producing female portraits with an oriental feel.

Art singulier

Words are captured, isolated from their original context, and written into Depadova’s canvas with a new meaning. Classed as part of the singulier movement, she works the colour using a knife with force and determination. The artist produces artworks of figures with an ethnic aesthetic, a tribute to her Algerian roots.

A mosaic of materials

Depadova pays particular attention to the mediums and materials she uses. The canvas is worked in a multitude of layers and all types of paper. Her works are stylised through the use of newspapers and old encyclopaedia that have been re-appropriated, reworked and reassembled into a patchwork of colours.
