Sophie Cantou is self-taught. Drawing has been a part of her life ever since she was old enough to hold a pencil. She drew all her childhood. As a teenager, the artist discovered painting, which gave him a wider and deeper field of expression.
She made art her dream, and graphic design her profession by becoming artistic director in advertising for 15 years, first in an agency then on her own account. She lived painting between intervals.
In 2016, Sophie Cantou understands that she needs to reinvest in painting fully, the first sales have arrived. In 2017, she decided to devote herself to it 100%, and made her first exhibitions. The reception was positive, she said she had the chance to see her work, her approach and her development encouraged.
"It is the beauty of nature, of our world, which challenges and inspires me, what I can perceive of its intelligence, its poetry, its hidden code. There are forms and movements that we find everywhere and beyond time, on the scale of the smallest as well as the largest. These resonances fascinate me. The iris of our eyes takes the form of the sun, the movements of the foam resemble those bark of trees. The ocean often evokes the sky. And you can imagine aerial views looking at the skeleton of the leaves ... All units are made up of many parts and energies. All these shapes magnetize me. I try to extract this magic. I am always inspired by an inner image but very quickly the painting takes on its own identity, and my approach becomes more intuitive and personal. I really seek to release my authenticity, to allow myself the expression of 'an inner and personal vision, free. "
His favorite tools are the knife and the brush. According to his feelings in front of the canvas, the layers follow one another. His inspirations are multiple and range from stained glass, mosaics and fractal images.
