A work around space, matter, form. I ask myself questions about representation: how to present to the eye rather than represent?

An idea of space and perception.

It is through the practice of dance that Rémi Delaplace approaches the question of space.

In this painting, he proposes a reflection around the form and the color.

The hexagonal frame gives the form, the color the presence.

Hexagonal frame.

Remi Delaplace's research is based on a perfect visual balance, a perfect construction, a certain absolute.

His practice of painting is closely linked to the practice of dance improvisation.

His work is crossed by themes: gravitation, trajectory, levitation, fall... which come directly from "contact dance". It is a question of new ways of inhabiting the world, the space. The problems of the event, of the orientation, of the situation of the bodies and objects are played.

His Biography

Rémi Delaplace lives and works in Paris. He graduated with a Masters in Visual Arts with an emphasis on Contemporary Arts and New Media from the University of Paris in 2011. He dances to feed his artistic work. He does so, all the while questioning our relationship with the space around us.

Remi Delaplace regularly exhibits in galleries and fairs all over Europe and Asia (Circé, Akie Arichi, Exit, Lineart, Mac Paris, YIA, Pontault Combault, Réalités Nouvelles, Guoyi Art Museum in Beijing, International Art Exchange of Museum in Hangzhou).

His Approach

Embodiment: The phenomenon of embodiment corresponds to the way in which a person evaluates an object according to the position of its body and/or its movements. It also has to do with the way our sensory-motor experiences influence our way of thinking. The representations that individuals make of their own space depend on their perceptual and motor representations.

"I have been reflecting for five years on a series I call Inside, Outside. My painting is intimately linked to my improvisation dance practice. It is crossed by themes of gravitation, trajectory, levitation and falling that come directly from "contact dance". It is a question of new ways of inhabiting the world and its space. The problems of the event, its orientation, of the situation of the bodies and objects are played. In my paintings, I create a spatiality which plays on the perception of the near and the far, of the trajectories of our bodies in space. My current work questions the form and the notions of representations and presentations. The form and the color become major players in awakening feelings outside of any narration."

He also works in collaboration with Anne Damesin on societal themes. He created the "Meetings of Land Art and The City" in Paris in 2013. Their installations were presented at the Talant Gallery in 2014 and 2020, at the White Nights in Paris in 2016 and 2017, and in several Land Art festivals (Vign'art and Sentiers des Arts).
