Reincarnation is the first female carafe made by Gwendoline Finaz de Villaine, painted with carbon black acrylic, in the form of a cubist logo. It merges the artist’s passion for the abstraction of the great masters and his taste for anthropomorphic ceramics, notably those of Cloutier, Blin and Capron.

The common thread persists with Africa, in particular the influence of the zoomorphic statuettes of Nigeria or Congo. This motif of a decanter repeated over and over again then became an obsession for the artist, who intertwined the pieces one into the other like a puzzle.

This painting represents femininity, but also questions the place of women in society, in the form of decorative provocation. Above all, it symbolizes a new stage in Gwendoline Finaz de Villaine’s artistic project, namely the apprehension of the painting tool, after having experimented with music and literature.

Gwendoline Finaz de Villaine is a writer, singer and painter. A former student of Radio France, Sciences Po Paris and HEC, she has worked with Michel Fugain, Elie Chouraqui, Roger Louret and Jean-Claude Camus. She has sung at Folies Bergère, Le Zénith, for M6, France Télévisions and in several musicals in Paris.

At the same time, she wrote a historical and fantastic three-volume saga, "Les Brumes de Grandville", and published a fourth novel in January 2019, "De poudre, de cendre et d’or", by French Pulp Éditions. His painting is a paper music, influenced by his stage experience, cubism, surrealism and African art.

Passionate about the 1920s period, she likes to conversate her "unconscious in the open air" with totems in Indian ink and jugs dancing; we find the influence of Cocteau, Picasso, Gio Ponti and the African masks that are dear to her.

"I never know where a painting will take me and I am always surprised by the final result, which appears before my eyes as a premonition, a message from the afterlife. »

"In my life, I have always been in search of freedom, and the most absolute freedom is painting. »

"I am fascinated by the masks and the magical charge of African art. »
