"Based on photos taken during a trip to Japan. I staged the statue of Hachikō, a famous dog in Japan. Every day, Hachikō accompanies his master to Shibuya station and every evening he goes to the station alone and waits for his return. One day, his master dies at work but Hachikō continues to go every day to Shibuya station to wait for his return. For almost 10 years, day after day, the dog returns precisely at the time when his master’s train was supposed to arrive, and waits. I imagined that this dog would tell his story to all the other dogs in his neighbourhood who listen carefully and show him their respect." - Flo Jaouen

As a child, Flo Jaouen remembers seeing many painting exhibitions, such as Chagal, Dufy, Klimt, Chardin... with her mother, who was herself passionate. From 9 to 15 years old, she studied modelling and drawing in the workshops of the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. At 17, she decided that she would be a painter. After graduating from the Beaux-Arts, on the fringes of painting, Flo worked as a computer graphics designer for several years. His painting, initially abstract, inspired by urban architecture (buildings under demolition, construction sites, vacant lots), has become figurative and human-oriented over the years, and more and more realistic. His main artistic influences have been, among others: Rembrandt, Velasquez, Goya, Honoré Daumier, Kandinsky, Miro, Picasso, Crémonini, Bacon, Garouste... and many contemporary artists. The artist is interested in the duality of beings, being and appearing, the image we give of ourselves and the way we look at others. She tries to show what is beyond appearances. Each of his works tells a story. She stages characters (real people but also representations of living beings such as statues, dolls, figurines) that she takes out of their initial context. She invents a story for them alongside other characters in order to establish links, connections in parallel universes that shake up the codes. The realism of his works is built on a critical language, the questioning of a humanity. Flo tries to infuse her paintings with the energy of life.
