Henri Abraham Univers is a painter, born in Paris 8th in 1974, to a French mother (Normandy) and a Burkinabe father (mossi). A self-taught painter, he has evolved since his early childhood in the artistic environment: music, modelling, painting... Having grown up in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, he immersed himself in a multicultural environment that later directly influenced his painting:
"I am African, it is the land that has seen me grow. My childhood images are this land. I am inspired by many things, but I always return to it"
Although Africa is the main source of inspiration for his works, it is not exclusively so. He finds his quest in everything and in the many and different regions of the world he has visited: Europe, Asia, America. Henri Abraham Univers is an artist whose mix is as much cultural as it is graphic:
" Quite frankly, I think I belong to the category of artists who are possessed by their art, artists driven by their inspiration, without having previously been "formatted" in art institutes, and without having acquired a technique say academic. In my paintings, I always try to get a message. I express a reality, and that’s where I have more affinities with the warm and vibrant side of Africa"
Graduated from the Conservatoire Libre du Cinéma Français in Paris, it’s finally painting that has taken over. He quickly realized that it was easier for him to express himself with a canvas and a brush. It was the most instinctive and natural mode, much more than working on a film project. After living in New York, then Ouagadougou and Paris, he moved to London in 2010. He is dedicated to his passion full time at the end of 2012. In 2014, he had the pleasure and honour of being selected to exhibit at the prestigious Summer Exhibition of the Royal Academy of Arts in London. In 2015, he moved to France. Currently he lives and works between Europe and West Africa
, Henri Abraham Univers’ paintings are in private collections in Europe, the United States and Africa.
