"I am now starting a long series of acrylics whose aim will be, as for my pastels, to translate an impressionistic vision of nature, based on the emotion aroused by what I call the "direct look", i.e. a way of doing things based more on feeling than on formal beauty, as can be found on a postcard for example. There will be acrylic translations of some of my pastels and probably some acrylics alla prima will inspire me other pastels.
In my acrylic technique I use gesso directly, which is a paste that makes it possible to obtain thicknesses and also serves as a base. It is therefore a work in thickness and with a "raw" aspect that - as with the Impressionists - takes on its true dimension when we move backwards: closely coloured impressions and by far the synthesis of these impressions in a realistic form." - Alain Voinot
