German painter Eugen Dick reveals a colourful universe in which he uses his palette to breathe life into large shimmering and saturated portraits, each depicting unique facial expressions and looks.
An artist from a very young age
Eugen Dick lives and works in Germany. It was at a very young age that he first became interested in painting, completing his first portrait at the age of eight and his first oil painting at thirteen. He trained with local artists to perfect his technique, before going on to study architecture. In 2005, he became a full-time painter.
Revealing emotions through portraits
Eugen Dick became interested in portrait techniques during his studies. Inspired in particular by female faces, he tries to transcribe their complex emotions. Their intense, fixed gazes call hypnotically to the observer. Dick works primarily with large-format canvases and acrylic, applying flat tints with a spatula.
