This painting is from my "clowns" series. Here the beginning of the important step of the white pose begins, the white covers the face while the clown’s mischievousness is born in the eyes. I have met several clown companies. I attended the make-up and make-up removal of the actors, rehearsals and improvisation sessions, these emotional moments offered me a beautiful palette of expressions that I noted in the photo. The clown’s expressiveness is coded by a particular game of comedy and make-up, mixed with the actor’s expressions. Make-up changes the face and its expressions, where is this border? When does the actor become a clown, or does the clown become the actor again? The clown holds his magic in the sublimation of the present moment, this process is very close to my approach to expressiveness in painting, the goal is not to freeze an image but to show an emotion.

Born in 1983 in Paris, I live and work in Savigny sur Orge in Essonne.

My favourite subjects are facial expressions - which I have studied extensively - including the anatomy of muscles and the different movements they allow. An expression is only a moment, it is also a vector of emotions, and that is what has always fascinated me. I found in painting, a way not to freeze, but to amplify an emotion to communicate it.

I work in series of paintings or drawings. In general, everything starts from a meeting. I can also be very inspired by music and performing arts. When I explore a subject, I like to look at it from a rational point of view and feel it to experience its pure emotion. I very often start from dictionary definitions to refer to a reliable source, and I superimpose my feelings on it, this is what starts my reflection: I feed myself on the discrepancies that can result from it. I take drawn, written or photographic notes that I use as material to move on to painting.
