Developing and improving the human soul in order to be in complete serenity is for Delphine Dessein the main virtue of painting. His paintings, sculptures and drawings reflect a spirit that seeks to free itself from the conditioning in which each individual is shaped; according to his culture, his education, his customs...
Whether with expressiveness or irony, Delphine Dessein exposes her feelings about an often complex society, where her slender characters (Nematoïdes and Sciapoïdes) are in search of a better world. Nematoids are ambivalent filiform beings, sometimes harmful, sometimes beneficial, in analogy with humans. In search of an expansion, an elevation, an "elsewhere".
In their hypnotic eyes is their vision of the world. In round spirals for some, these mountain nematodes symbolize calm and serenity. In rectangular or square spirals for the others, these Plains Nematodes represent enmity as well as aggressiveness. Their screams are even deafening!
Sciapoids, on the other hand, are one-legged mythological ascetics with gigantic feet, allowing them to protect themselves from the sun during meditation. The fluorescent nuances evoke an intense effervescence, a dynamism, a vitality.
The omnipresence of verticalities in the series Nematoids, Sciapoids or Liberation reveals an ascent towards absolute deliverance! Loving, expressing, doubting, shouting... are among the kindnesses that it is important to agree so that a "Spirit of Liberty" can take shape with all his "Being". For Delphine, it is the famous "Purpose of Liberty".
